We are aware of the major earthquake that occurred on Monday in the Chocó region of Colombia and the subsequent declaration of national disaster. If you have experienced evacuations or have loved ones nearby, we understand this may be a stressful and uncertain time. Your wellbeing and security remain Mauve’s top priority as your Employer of Record provider.
Situation Overview
On 10 August 2026, at 7:34am local time, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake hit in the Chocó region of Colombia.
Sadly, infrastructure damage, injury and loss of life have been reported, particularly in the directly impacted region and the city of Cali.
President Abelardo de la Espriella has established a Unified Command Post to coordinate relief efforts and damage assessments, deploying search and rescue teams, emergency personnel, police and military forces to affected areas.
Temporary shelters have been opened for displaced residents, while inspections of airports, roads, public buildings and other critical infrastructure have led to some transport disruptions as safety checks continue. Authorities are also working to restore essential services and deliver aid to the hardest-hit communities.
Mauve Group is actively monitoring the situation and maintaining contact with workers and clients where appropriate.
Guidance for Workers
If you are located in or near an affected area, please:
Follow all instructions, warnings and updates issued by local authorities and emergency services.
Remain alert to the possibility of aftershocks, which may continue following a major seismic event.
Avoid entering damaged buildings or infrastructure until they have been inspected and declared safe by the relevant authorities.
If local authorities have issued evacuation or other emergency guidance for your area, please continue to follow those instructions.
If your work location has been affected, do not return until building management or local authorities have confirmed that any necessary safety inspections have been completed.
If you experience any disruption to your work or need to make changes to your location or schedule, please inform both your manager and Fabio Molano/the Mauve Client Services team as soon as possible.
For up-to-date information on search and rescue operations, or to make a donation to the humanitarian effort, Mauve recommends Cruz Rojo Colombiana/the Colombian Red Cross.
Workers who are affected by the earthquake should contact Mauve Group as soon as they are able to confirm their wellbeing and advise of any support requirements.
